At Hands of Shakti (HOS), every flower we create is more than just a handcrafted embellishment as it represents sustainability, empowerment, and a story of women coming together to build something meaningful. What began as an effort to give underprivileged women the opportunity to take a step towards financial independence from home has now bloomed into something much larger, reaching the world of designer fashion.
We are proud to share that renowned designers Ratika Marya and Niharika Bhasin have both purchased HOS flowers and are using them creatively to embellish their garments and. By integrating these handmade pieces into their designs, they are not only aesthetically elevating their creations but also supporting the women behind this initiative.
This collaboration represents the complete cycle of our social enterprise:
1. Sourcing scrap cloth that would otherwise go to waste
2. Handing it to HOS women whom we’ve offered training to transform it into delicate handcrafted flowers
3. Selling the flowers back through exhibitions and designer collaborations
4. Designers like Ratika Marya and Niharika Bhasin bringing these flowers to life in fashion, giving them a platform that blends creativity with conscious impact
Each flower stitched into a garment carries with it the story of resilience and the hands that shaped it. For us, this isn’t just about decoration but about empowerment.
(The photographs of the garments are designed by Ratika Marya.)
As we continue to explore new avenues, our Diwali and Christmas exhibitions remain a space where these creations shine in many forms including Toran (door decoration), Latkan (wall hangins), keychains, embellished diaries, Christmas decorations and upcycled jewellery boxes. Each purchase keeps the cycle alive, creating opportunities for more women and ensuring that nothing goes to waste.
We are deeply grateful to all those who have recognised the beauty and value of this work.
